i have the object permanence of some sort of small, neurotic animal

which often makes me forget that i've made things. especially if i've been doing a lot at once!

so i guess i should probably write them down somewhere.

this is mostly for me to look back on later and see if i've improved with time but it's also partly because i've absolutely been backreading a lot of old, old sewing blogs and really enjoying the feeling of unearthing a time capsule... so instead of lurking i decided i'll participate!

i have a bad habit of lurking and then feeling bad that i'm not contributing but that's a subject for a completely different kind of blog for sure. we're not here to psychoanalyze me, we're here to look at little fabric projects.

so! here's the first one - just a simple little thing i made out of necessity out of scrap fabrics. i've been trying to be better about actually using things instead of hoarding them for a possible "what-if" later down the line; i got into sewing partly to try to reduce my amount of personal waste, but i'm not helping anything if i'm just buying a ton and using none of it, now am i?

(i'll figure out a proper photo setup eventually. if i wait until everything's absolutely perfect to get this started i will NEVER get anything done, i know myself!!!!)

it's just a little lumpy square, but it's my little lumpy square. i'm not mad at the way the gradient turned out on it but i AM a little miffed at the fact that i found the perfect brown fabric to match the flower prints three weeks after i was done with this. turns out i didn't hallucinate having it, i just stored it in a different place than my other cottons... oh well!

she is now in her new living space in my kitchen as my new dish drying rack. should've made it a tiny bit bigger (i forgot it would end up a little short without a border - oops again) but i like the look of it and it perfectly replaces the old one that was looking really really sad by now. and i used colours that would usually languish in my scraps forever! so i'm counting it as a win.
